Why I left my 1cr+ Job with no Backup Plan?

Hey friend,

First of all Happy New Year to you!

Update on the eve of New Year - I left my job in Nov 2023 to take a break and reinvent myself. The goal is to find ways to exit the hedonic treadwheel and become time-rich.

While working a high-paced job and with the offices opening up, the time in my current organisation was almost up. Ideally, I should have moved back to Bangalore, found a new job and then started moving up the company ladder making a ton of money. But thinking about the life I was living before the pandemic and right now, I feel that this is what I like more.

Not only that, if I moved out for a new venture working for someone, I would miss on two fronts -

  1. Lose the time watching my kid grow, playing with him and teaching things which I want to do the way I want to.
  2. Lose the precious time with my parents. To be honest with myself, we do not even have half of the time left that I already spent with my parents.

The normal route might give me more money in present and future but I would be selling my time which won't be worth that. After 20-30 years I will regret more of the above two than leaving the job and enjoying it (with no plans about the financial plan).

It is true, that not everyone can do that because of the liabilities and other responsibilities. But as I have an option, I decided to go that route.

Now these are reasons for me to take such an action. Do reply if you feel I made a mistake and why.

In the next newsletter, I will share some of the insights on what I learned about myself in the 2-month break and what I plan to do in 2024.

Have a great year ahead! Once again Happy New Year!
